Happy Thanksgiving to all my readers!
Last night in my yoga class we did a lot of core work. I told everyone that we needed to make more room for turkey. Which of course is completely true! So we did some binge eating poses. For those of you who weren’t in my class last night, the binge eating poses are extended side angle (yesterday’s pose of the day), downward facing dog and then you bring your knee in to your nose and then over to the opposite side elbow, and boat pose. Remember these as we will all be doing these poses tomorrow! 😊
Triangle may not be one of the poses for binge eating but it is still a very important pose for your core. Triangle is similar to warrior II in the fact that you are always working in it. You don’t just get into the pose and stay there. You are always trying to turn your rib cage and twist the core. It is one of my favorites because I enjoy seeing how far I can twist and maintain the intent of the pose. 😀 Feel free to post your triangle poses on my Facebook page!
Today’s Pose: Utthita Trikonasana- extended triangle pose- standing Warrior II with your left leg in front. Straighten the left leg and take your left down along that leg to a block, your ankle or the floor. Turn your right rib cage to face the ceiling and then raise the right arm towards the ceiling. Your head and turn to face the ceiling if your neck allows or you can look down or out. Make sure both knees are straight but not locked. Stay here for a few breaths and then switch legs.
What this pose works: triceps brachii, internal oblique, gluteus medius, tensor fasciae latae, sartorial, and the piriformis
